QP Workshop 2017

QP Workshop 2017

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending the Queen Photographers Workshop.  This was the second annual workshop for The Queen Photographers and while last year’s event was awesome, these ladies really outdid themselves for 2017.  The two day workshop took place in picturesque Asheville, NC and was filled with lots of networking, learning and best of all…laughter!

A few of the Queens got together and rented out a house for the weekend and that’s where the adventure began for me.  I was the second attendee to arrive at our beautiful estate on Friday evening and I couldn’t imagine a more scenic venue to spend my weekend in.  Our house was nestled in the mountains of North Carolina that looked almost like a scene out of The Sound of Music.  And Kristen of Lavish Moments Photography can vouch for the fact that I twirled through our front yard singing “The Hills Are Alive With The Sound of Music.”  Once the rest of our housemates arrived we communed in the kitchen while Kim of Kim Craven Photography whipped us up an amazing seafood pasta dinner while we danced, sipped on some wine and just had a genuinely fun time together.

Saturday was our first official day for the workshop and I learned so much!  The day started out with a panel discussion featuring top industry leaders like Tara Ruby, Kesha Williams, Candice Johnson, Tomayia Colvin and Margaux Weinstock.  The keynote speaker for the afternoon was Alrinthea Carter of Southern Philter and hearing her speak on rural exploration photography was truly fascinating!  We broke for lunch and then ended our day with various workshops including a content planning course hosted by Jeanette Brewster, putting together workflows with Sarajane Case, and studio lighting techniques with Kim Craven Photography.  Our Saturday ended back at our estate where we had Kickback With The Queens where the rest of the attendees were invited back to our home for pizza, games and good times.

Our Sunday did not go as originally planned.  We woke up to downpours and considering we had an outdoor styled shoot scheduled for later that afternoon it did not make for a happy morning, but when creatives come together we can make magic regardless of the conditions.  We headed back to Mojo Coworking, where our workshop was held, and had an early morning meditation and yoga session with Jamie Fleming-Dixon.  It was much needed for everyone I’m sure!  The day then kicked off with Tyler J. McCall discussing Instagram and how to convert your followers into fans and we wrapped up classes with Jessica Hunt Photography discussing how to turn a $100 wedding into a $10,000 wedding.  After finishing up a Mojo we headed back to the estate where our amazing team of styled shoot vendors and models were ready for 3 various shoots!  Although it rained we came out with some amazing images!  I truly had a wonderful time with these ladies (and a couple of gentlemen) and am already anticipating #QPWorkshop2018!!  Check out my images from the styled shoot (along with some behind the scenes shots) as well as my video recap of our weekend.
